 Sidewalk and Street Improvements Continue One of the objectives of Shaping our Future: 2012, The City of Rockingham Land Use Plan was sidewalk improvement. A sidewalk priority list was formed to determine those in the greatest need, and the City of Rockingham has begun making improvements and repairs to those sidewalks; which is funded through the Powell Bill Fund. The existence of a network of sidewalks in a community promotes safe pedestrian movement and provides an alternative to vehicular transportation, which in turn reduces vehicular traffic congestion and air and noise pollution; promotes better public health by providing citizens with an opportunity to walk for exercise and recreation; and encourages more social interaction among citizens which in turn promotes a stronger sense of community. |
